Our Missouri Eclipse Task Force

Learn about our goals and how to become involved.

Welcome

A lucky few areas of the USA will experience an Annular Solar Eclipse on October 14, 2023 and a Total Solar Eclipse on April 8, 2024.

Southeast Missouri is fortunate to be within the path of totality for the April 8, 2024 Total Solar Eclipse.  While Missouri will only experience a "partial eclipse" on October 14, 2023 due to orbital mechanics, the October 14th event is expected to create considerable excitement in Missouri as a "warm up" act for the April 8, 2024 Total Solar Eclipse.

We are exciting about these once-in-a-life time opportunities brought to us by nature, and think you should be too!

Goals

The goals of the Missouri Eclipse Task Force are three-fold:

  1. Inspire Missouri to experience the 2023 and 2024 eclipse events, in particular traveling to Southeast Missouri to be within the path of totality for the 2024 Total Solar Eclipse.

  2. Educate Missouri about the unique science, economic and personal viewing opportunities related to the eclipse.

  3. Connect local entities to the significant number of eclipse related resources that are becoming available. Our connection with several local and national resources puts us in a unique position to help our local communities.

Notably, our goals do not include arranging specific eclipse viewing events for individuals or organizations as many of us are community planners for our own areas.

We encourage your organization to contact us with your questions and suggestions on how we can help you or help others get ready for this unique experience.

Task Force Members

To help Missouri prepare for these unique events, a state-wide task eclipse task force was formed in 2019.  The task force consists of a collaboration of Missouri area organizations that include amateur astronomy enthusiasts, civic and educational institutions, and local businesses. Most of the volunteers are directly involved in the planning of eclipse related events for their respective organization(s). For a list of Missouri Eclipse Task Force members, please click here.

Regular monthly task force meetings started in June 2021 and continue each month.  If your organization is interested in becoming involved in our Missouri Eclipse Task Force, please contact us.
